What exactly is the Green Homes Grant?

The Green Homes Grant is a £2billion fund set up by the government to upgrade householder's homes to make them more energy efficient, lower their energy bills and save you money.

Grants will be provided to households in England in the form of vouchers which can be used towards making energy-efficiency and insulation improvements to your home.

The government grant, worth upto £5,000, will cover at least two thirds of the cost that homeowners spend on energy efficiency and insulation upgrades. Those on the lowest incomes can get a grant of upto £10,000 without having to pay anything towards the cost.

What types of improvements am I able to apply for under the Green Homes Grant scheme?

Grants can be applied for covering many energy-saving improvements to your home including:

Insulation

Solid wall and cavity wall insulation, floor insulation, loft insulation, attic insulation.
You name it, almost all types of home insulation are covered by the scheme! These keep your home warmer whilst also saving the planet by reducing emissions.

Low carbon heating

Air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps, solar thermal panels. Many types of low carbon and renewable heating systems are covered, providing you have good insulation (which you can have installed at the same time if needed). Low carbon heating is cheaper to run and uses much cleaner electricity rather than burning fossil fuels like oil and gas.

Draughtproofing

Huge amounts of heat is wasted through draughty homes. Draughtproofing can significantly cut your bills (or you could do this bit yourself to save your voucher for the more expensive parts like insulation).

Upgrading windows and doors

You can have Double or Triple glazing installed if you currently only have single glazing, secondary glazing to add to your single glazing (in listed buildings etc) and upgrading to energy efficient doors (where replacing doors that were installed prior to 2002).

Heating controls and insulation

, This includes thermostats for your appliances and hot water tank, insulation to your hot water tank to keep the water nice and warm, smart heating controls, zone controls, delayed-start thermostats and thermostatic radiator valves (all of which save you money on heating).

Help, every step of the way

Dont worry if this all sounds a bit complicated and daunting. The measures most suitable for your home will be advised during an assessment, everything will be explained in detail before the work is arranged. Most importantly we are always available to answer questions and offer advice if needed.

Dont delay.
